The Power of Social Workers to Solve Students Problems Activated

Erbil, Kurdistan: Rwanga Foundation in partnership with Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ministry of Education and Labor Department of Salahaddin University organized meetings/discussions about students’ and teachers’ problems and the role of social workers in finding a solution for their problems.
With the project sponsored by UNICEF and attended by 55 School Administrators of Erbil, this meeting was dedicated for listening to requests of social workers and choose the students and teachers problems with an aim of finding a suitable solutions for them. Requests were presented by the Social workers and at the end of the meeting some of the requests were accepted.
The Ministry of Education assured that they will implement the requests in all the schools in Kurdistan with an aim to increase the role of social workers.
Some of the requests consisted of:
1. Providing suitable places for the social workers in schools.
2. Informing the social workers about the problems and supporting them if needed.
3. Giving freedom to social workers in taking actions and allowing the administrators to involve.
4. Involving social workers in decision makings related to students and inviting them to attend the parents’ meeting in the School.
5. Providing needs and budget for the social workers to execute their tasks.

The above requests and many other related requests were presented for discussion. All of them were accepted by the Committee and forwarded to the respective Ministries for their approval.
