Duhok, KURDISTAN (January 5th-30th, 2018)- The Rwanga Community Social Center, in collaboration with the Community Management, hosted a football championship for IDPs at the Rwanga Community Football Playground.
500 young IDPs from the six Community Social Centers , which are funded by GIZ and managed by Rwanga Foundation, gathered and had formed 44 Football teams, trainers and referees to meet each other in a highly challenging and motivating football tournament, facilitated by volunteers and supervised by the Community Social Center (CSC) staff members. The aim was to support and encourage the youth in a sports activity, build bonds among the community and raise the awareness of fairness and teambuilding.
Khalaf Barakat Haji, one of the referees, stated:” Me, as a sports person, volunteered as the main referee with the aim to make my people practice more sport in their daily life. It was really very well organized and a wonderful fair championship, that’s why I am willing to keep coordinating in more sport activities. The rules and coordination were perfect and I could truly see the satisfaction of all teams.”
In the final game, the two teams named Kocho and Shimal, faced each other to find out who will become the champion of this tournament. The Shimal team finally did it and became the winner of the championship.
Shaker Khalaf (Kocho team) and Ziad Mato (Shimal team) said that they were very happy to have been part of this sport activity and that they were very grateful to have a chance to be part of it. “We had a good time and we forgot about our hard times, even if only for a while.” said Shaker Khalaf.
