Empowering Youth in Duhok: Rwanga & UNICEF Launch Skills, Innovation, and Job Support Project

Rwanga Foundation, with financial support from UNICEF and in coordination with the General Directorate of Youth at the Kurdistan Regional Government, is implementing the “Empowering the Next Generation” project in Duhok Governorate.

The project is being carried out in three districts of Duhok: the city center, Semel, and Shekhan. Its core activities include conducting youth training sessions, revitalizing youth centers, establishing innovation labs in each district, creating job opportunities, and providing financial support for active and aspiring youth.

In the first phase, 600 young individuals will participate in life skills training. Following a competency-based selection process, 54 participants will be chosen to become entry-level trainers. Each of these trainers will then train 10 new participants. In total, the training will reach 1,140 youth across the three districts.

The second phase focuses on upgrading youth activity centers in all three districts and establishing innovation labs at each center. These labs will serve as platforms for youth to strengthen their skills and explore employment-oriented ideas.

The third phase highlights financial support for 36 youth-led initiatives in the fields of environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and digital innovation. These initiatives aim to create opportunities for growth, break traditional barriers, and expand market access. Additionally, employment opportunities will be generated for 30 youth in these areas.

Rwanga Foundation remains committed to laying the groundwork for youth development and empowerment across Kurdistan and Iraq.
