ZAKHO, Kurdistan (October 10th, 2017) - German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Rwanga Foundation in partnership with Help Organization held a graduation ceremony for new graduates of Vocational Trainings in the Zakho District.
The ceremony was part of the joint project to improve the career opportunities for young people in the Duhok governorate. During the ceremony, 61 female and male adolescents from IDPs and host communities graduated in three courses: Hairdressing, Carpentry and Handcraft.
The project’s aim is to develop the vocational skills to one thousand female and male youth from the three communities of refugees, IDPs, and host communities in the Duhok governorate, and enable them to enter the job market in order to support themselves and their families.
“Rwanga Foundation is doing a great job in providing opportunities to female and male youth of Zakho. Unfortunatly NGO’s are mostly focusing on Duhok, however in Zakho we don’t get this attention or much opportunities for our young people. But Rwanga Foundation took the responsibility and started to provide more opportunities for youth and vulnerable people by opening vocational training courses!” said Botan Muhsin, the Mayor of Zakho.
After completing the vocational trainings, the participants were trained on employability skills, in order to be able to find a job in the market. One of the women, who completed the Hairdressing course, was happy that she has improved her skills, stating :“ I’m lucky to be a part of this. We need training and experience to improve our skills and find jobs!”
On January 2017, The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Rwanga Foundation in partnership with Help Organization together signed a joint project to improve the career opportunities of young people. The project includes vocational training courses on eleven subjects: welding, mobile phone maintenance, carpentry, air-conditioning maintenance, electrics, mechanics, sewing, PVC (Plastic/Aluminum Works), computer, hairdressing and handcrafts.
