Rwanga Foundation gained access to displaced Yazidis trapped on Shangal Mountain to distribute critical aid on Friday, August 10, 2014. According to officials, 40,000 Yazidis are hemmed in and surrounded by ISIS terrorists on Shangal Mountain. The displaced Yazidi have no access to food, water and basic necessities. They rely solely on aid but relief agencies face the danger of ISIS terrorists and difficulty getting aid to them. Despite such difficulties, Rwanga Foundation continued their efforts and instilled their presence in the area by actively helping the Yazidi community.
The Rwanga team reached the IDPs via a helicopter provided by the Zeravani forces. The aid included 3 tons of canned food, 1 ton of baby milk and large quantity of water bottles. Unfortunately, helicopters could only carry a certain weight and this was restricted to the amount of aid Rwanga could send to those trapped. More aid will be distributed through the same method over the next coming days.
On the same day, Rwanga Foundation distributed more aid in three villages that host Yazidi IDPs from Shingal. These villages were Khanke (30, 000 IDPs), Batel (21, 000 IDPs) Bajet Kandala (27, 000 IDPs). Ten large containers of food held much needed aid for the IDPs. The team distributed 9000 cartons of milk powder, 11,000 diapers, 15,000 sanitary napkins, 258,000 bottles of water, 5040 bottles of milk, 69,000 canned foul, 33,000 canned fish.
Rwanga Foundation will continue the urgent humanitarian relief over the next few days to those on Shangal Mountain and villages hosting Yazidi IDPs.
