On 26th March 2015 in the capital city of Erbil, Rwanga Foundation held an appreciation ceremony in honor of those who sacrificed their lives protecting Kurdistan from ISIS.
Families of the Martyred Peshmargas attended the event to mourn and show respect to their beloved ones. A short film was shown highlighting the critical role of Peshmargas and their passion for protecting the land and people of Kurdistan. In a moving addition, children of the fallen paid tribute to their fathers through poetry. Mr Muhamad Haji Mahmu, Leader of the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party, amongst others, all delivered powerful speeches again drawing on the importance of the Peshmargas and their selfless bravery. They thanked Rwanga Foundation for its role as a non-governmental organisation in bringing together the ceremony.
One of those in attendance introduced himself as a father of a martyred man. “It is an honor to see Rwanga Foundation showing the respect to those who sacrificed their lives to make Kurdistan a safe place and help aid their family”.
The campaign by Rwanga to Support Peshmarga and their martyred families began on the 13th March, 2015, with an aim of allowing donations of $1000 for each affected family, with eventual support for over 1200 families.
Rwanga Foundation continues daily to distribute aid to mourning families across Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani and Kirkuk.
