
Qadiya, Duhok Governorate, Kurdistan – In the last few days, Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations in Iraq, Dominik Bartsch, along with other members of international organizations (IOs) and local government met at Rwanga Community to evaluate facilities and conduct family visits.
Mr. Bartsch and a UNHCR representative praised Rwanga Foundation for its implementation of Rwanga Community, specifically stating that the community is well constructed, organized and clean. Furthermore, it was encouraged that other camps replicate the management success of Rwanga Community.
Rwanga Foundation’s Community Manager also briefed the delegation on the community’s activities and projects, including other projects in Kurdistan for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees. Currently two IOs, Action Contre La Faim (ACF) and International Organization for Migration (IOM), have established offices inside of the Rwanga community.
Organization ACF leads a water sanitization project and IOM provides counseling services to inhabitants struggling with psychological issues. The community in Qadiya currently hosts 14,029 individuals.
