
BAHARKA, Kurdistan — Marking International Children’s Day, Rwanga Foundation along with Red Crescent of UAE began to deliver one portion of a total of 5,000 toys to Baharka Hawcharkh elementary school outside the city of Erbil.
The toys were distributed to a total of 750 students during the morning, and continued to other schools throughout the day in surrounding areas of Erbil.
Additionally, Rwanga and Carrefour Foundation partnered to take 100 children from IDP families to Carrefour for a gift and face painting. The activity’s aim was to make children feel as though they are part of a larger community of support and that they are welcome here.
Children’s Day is honored in many countries around the world and was established in the 1950s as a day to recognize the issues concerning children globally. Another variant of the occasion is called, Universal Children’s Day and held annually on November 20th.
