Sulaimani’s vulnerable families receive multi-day aid Delivery

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan // Beginning July 13th through July 16, 2015, emergency aid packages were distributed to multiple locations/districts in Sulaimani governorate in coordination with local partners and government offices.

1,300 packages aid packages containing dried milk, diapers, shampoos and hygienic products (intended for mothers) were distributed in Sulaimani Governorate at Ashti IDP camp in Arbat Sub-District. To date there are more than 800 IDP families at Ashti camp; we have provided families with more than 10 members, two shares of packages.

The aid delivery to Ashti camp was provided in cooperation with GEC, WFP and the Sub-District Mayor’s office of Arbat.

Two days later Rwanga’s Sulaimani office with Zaid bin Khalifa foundation and Rusk, conducted two major distributions in Kalar District to Qoratoo IDP camp and Shekh Langer checkpoint on July 15th. The two camps host 528 and 218 IDP families respectively while both camps have received a majority of their IDPs from Ramadi, Iraq. Both aid distributions provided necessary food and non-food items for mothers (identical to the packages previously distributed at Ashti IDP camp) as well as clothes which were provided by Rusk organization.

Unfortunately, families at Shekh Langer checkpoint are living in grim conditions — sheltered by simple plastic sheets near a main street, and some families have disabled and elderly persons.

July 16, 2015, marked the closed to the three-day distribution of emergency aid to Sulaimani. An additional 172 packages for mothers were distributed in Khormal Sub-District with 200 food packages to vulnerable families who are residents of Khormal. The delivery project was organized by Shahed Ali Health Center and in cooperation with Shekh Khalifa Foundation.
