Rwanga Foundation holds a Seminar on Traffic Law for IDPs

Duhok, KURDISTAN (January 10th – February 8th  2018) - The Rwanga Community Social Support Center (CSC), funded by GIZ,  in coordination with the Directorate of Traffic Law, initiated and organized  six awareness seminars on traffic law amongst IDPs of the Rwanga Community and five  camps  (Chammishku, Bajed Kanadala,  Sharia, Kabarto 1 and Kabarto 2).

With the aim to provide a deeper understanding of the regional Traffic Law and its enforcement, the CSC conducted a one month seminar on the rules and regulations of traffic law, in order to let young and new drivers become a protective part of the traffic environment. The seminar covered various important sectors like the basic traffic rules, traffic signs, the do’s and don’ts of driving, economic driving, as well as first aid knowledge and emergency strategies.

Nor Masood, Lawyer and coordinator of the seminar, stated:” The participants of this seminar received a lot of important information which they had never been aware of or maybe ignored, without knowing the danger of their individual actions on themselves and the civil society. A lot of these drivers are coming from small villages and are simply not aware of the basic traffic rules. I hope we could really raise a higher understanding within the participants.”

A number of 481 participants had the chance to become beneficiaries. One of the participants, Marwan Khmer, mentioned:” I have a car like thousands of others, but I don’t have a license and I really had no good information about the laws. I honestly didn’t know how dangerous my driving behavior actually was and experiencing this seminar made me have my decision to stop driving until I have an actual legal driving license.”

Traffic laws are the laws which govern traffic and regulate vehicles, while rules of the road are both the laws and the informal rules that may have developed over time to facilitate the orderly and timely flow of traffic.
