Rwanga Foundation Hosts  “Support Volunteer Work and Activities” for IDPs

Duhok, Kurdistan (February 19th, 2018) -  The Community Social Centre (CSC), funded by GIZ and managed by Rwanga  Foundation, has given 60 Volunteers the chance to share their work with IDPs  and the agencies that work at Kabarto 1, which were the outcome of various  activities like knitting training, art tables and wedding dress creations.

Besides presenting their work, the volunteers of the IDP community conducted several educational trainings, workshops, social campaigns and raising awareness sessions to the young people which is eager to get involved in these types of actions and which is willing to evolve out of it. The activity was born out of the IDPs wishes to encourage others to become part of voluntarism and out of the belief in creativity to inspire and motivate parts of the community as a sign of change.

Amir Ajaj Smo, a young IDP volunteer from the Kabarto 1 camp, said:” I am very happy to work as a volunteer, because it has a meaning. With being a volunteer, I have the possibility to help my community and share my experiences in order to maybe motivate and energize them.”

The activity also had a little focus on the young people’s parents, which sometimes might not support the young IDPs ideas and work. This activity, therefor, was also a presentation of the good benefits behind voluntarism and the impact on the community and its elevation of social interaction.

One of the Rwanga staff members added:” We as Rwanga staff and the volunteers worked with each other in a very passionate way, which made it a very nice example of working together as a team and be a good example to others for maybe let more activities like that sprout.”
