
Duhok, KURDISTAN (April 23rd,2018) – Dr. Gerd Mueller, the German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, accompanied by his delegation which is composed of a number of German Parliamentarians and Mr. Farhad Atroshi (Governor of Duhok), visited the Community Social Support Center of Rwanga Foundation in Kabartu 2 Camp in order to have a look at the current progress of one of the projects funded by BMZ .
During the visit, the IDPs and refugees had the possibility to talk to the delegation and to express their thoughts and experiences. In direct contact and by active participation in the conducted activities, such as trainings in literacy, Dr. Mueller could see from the young to the elderly, which impact the provided trainings and activities have.
Basma Khawaja, the manager of the Community Social Center, said:” We are very happy about the visit, because we had the chance to involve Dr. Mueller and his delegation and at the same time to have talks and discussions about our current successful progress, as well as our path to future progresses.”
Rwanga Foundation operates the community social centres in the six camps of Kabartu 1, Kabartu 2, Chammishku, Shariya, Bajikandal, and Qadiya (Rwanga Community) where more than 90,000 IDPs live. Through these community social centres, regular services including legal and community development activities, as community based activities, are provided targeting the entire camp populations with a particular focus on young females and males.
The project is funded by GIZ and will be implemented in close coordination with MOLSA. The aim of the project is to enable the IDPs in the six camps become more self-reliant, connected, active, and have adequate capacity to manage themselves at the family and community level. The project started on July 2017 and will continue till November 2018.
