
Erbil,KURDISTAN (October 8,2019) Rwanga Foundation held the final ceremony of the 'Youth Volunteers Initiative’ Project to recognize the volunteer group who implemented their projects.
With the aim of supporting the female and male youth to come up with project proposals and participate in a competition to implement their projects for the best benefit of the public. Rwanga Foundation holds an annual competition that encourages the volunteer groups to apply their project proposals in order to get funds for their projects
The ceremony was attended by volunteers, government officials, sponsors and representatives of the NGOs and companies.
‘’We appreciate Rwanga Foundation for encouraging us to build the culture of volunteerism and serve the community. Volunteerism is very important for all communities especially in our community.’’ said Dr Salar Osman, Deputy Minister of Culture and Youth.
Abdulsalam Medeni, Chief Executive Director at Rwanga Foundation said ‘’ We know volunteering is not paid, but the projects need some funds and support in order to be implemented better. Therefore, we select good projects [ through the judges] and fund them. we try to help youth in supporting them to convert their own ideas into real projects’’ He also highlighted that ‘’Voluntary work is really important for the graduates. It gives them experience that helps them to find jobs’’.
The evaluation process was done through five judges:
- Bakhtiyar Ahmed –General Director at Civil Development Organization (CDO)
- Huda Zangana - Civil Activist
- Afram Abdulahad - Head of Rwanga Foudation’s office in Duhok
- Avan Jaff - Civil Activist
- Goran Rasool - Deputy Director of Programs at Rwanga Foundation
The number of received project applications at the closing date was 205 applications from all the selected governorates including) 65 applications from Duhok, 50 applications from Erbil, 48 applications from Nineveh, 29 applications from Sulaimani, 8 applications from Halabja and 4 applications from Kirkuk).
Moreover, a total of 12 groups (3 projects from Halabja, 3 from Duhok, 2 from Erbil, 2 from Sulaimani, 1 from Kirkuk and 1 from Nineveh) were selected and announced as winners, including a total of 104 volunteers (42 females and 62 males). The total number of Beneficiaries were 16,494 Beneficiaries.
The total fund for all 12 projects was 33,958,500 IQD
During the ceremony, appreciation certificates were given to the volunteer groups, and the Judges.
