Winners of Mathematics Competition Announced

Erbil, KURDISTAN (April 29, 2019) – Rwanga Foundation held the ceremony of the semi-final and final stages of the Mathematics Competition where 5 students were competing to win the title of the ‘Mathematics Champion’ in Erbil Governorate.

The Mathematics Competition started earlier this year among 169 students from 169 different schools. Only 5 students could make it to the semi-final stage and only 3 students went to the final stage to win the titles of the  1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The five students who were competing were:

  • Shahnaz Imad  from Erbil Primary School for Girls
  • Vesta Ferhan from Qalai-Bahradaran Primary School
  • Lavin Dler from Mahmud Zandar Primary School
  • Nza Wshyar from Chro Primary School for Girls
  • Nwa Hemn from Guli Zard Primary School

Rwanga Foundation’s Chief Executive Director was present in the ceremony. ‘’ Our aim is to expand the students knowledge and interest for Mathematics. The competition is now among the students of Erbil Governorate, our aim is to make it across Kurdistan Region and to expand it to other subjects of school.’’

The competition was among the students of 10th grade. During the ceremony, Mr. Burhan Argushi, the Adviser of the Education Minister states ‘’ Mathematics is a global subject and we must promote it more. Mathematics is the mother and language of other sciences therefore any activities to promote mathematics is highly appreciated’’.

The final ceremony of the Mathematics Competition was covered live on Kurdistan 24 Channel, the media sponsor of the event. After the seni-final and final stages, three winners were announced as below:

  1. First Place Winner: Vesta Ferhan from Qalai-Bahradaran Primary School
  2. Second Place Winner: Nza Wshyar from Chro Primary School for Girls
  3. Third Place Winner: Nwa Hemn from Guli Zard Primary School

The fist-place winner won the title of ‘Mathematics Champion’ in Erbil, $2,000- and one-week scientific trip to one of the good schools outside of Iraq. Also, her school won $2,000. The second-place winner and her school won $1,500 each. The third-place winner and her school won $1,000 each.
