
Erbil, KURDISTAN (March 4th, 2019) - Rwanga Foundation announced a new project titled ‘Mathematics Competition’
The competition, which included 169 beneficiaries, was held among the eleven directories of Education in Erbil. The aim of the competition was to improve the education sector and encourage students to reach their potential.
"We would like to thank the Rwanga Foundation for supporting the education sector in the Kurdistan region. This competition is a wonderful challenge for the students. It is also an honor for the school which represents their winning student." said the General Director of Education-Erbil, Bashdar Abdulkhaliq.
The mathematics competition was categorized by four rounds. At the first round 169 students competed to enter the second round in which only ten students remain. Only the final five students from the second round could participate in the third to enter the top three and compete to win the “Math Champion” title at round four. Only the top three winners will be taking the winning prices as followed: 1000 dollars for the 3rd place,1500 dollars for the 2nd place and 2000 dollars for the winner of the first place, including a scientific trip with one of his/her teacher.
Dashne Shwan, one of the students who attended the competition, was very happy stating:”I am glad that I was able to participate in this competition. It is the first time being part of such a competition in the Kurdistan region. This project supports us to love math more. Some of the questions were easy and some were hard.'' she added.
According to Mr. Rebin Hoshyar, project coordinator at Rwanga Foundation, this pilot project which was implemented for the first time, will become an annual project covering the entire Kurdistan region.
