Sulaimania, KURDISTAN (April 22,  2019)- Rwanga Foundation and the Civil Development Organization (CDO) plant  1000 trees in Sulaimani and Halabja on the occasion of the World Earth Day.

In order to protect the environment, trees had been planted in the Bazyan Area since 80% of all industrial factories in the Sulaimania Governorate are located in Bazyan. Green Areas are protecting the environment by filtering dust and other undesired air pollution. The Bazyan area is mainly polluted by oil refineries, the iron industry, the steel industry and the cement industry. The aerial discharge of those factories consist of Sulfur Dioxide and Nitrogen Oxides producing continuous visible clouds around the area and causing extraordinary stress and abuse to the surrounding environment.

Rwanga Foundation and CDO will spend 5 days planting 600 trees in Bazyan and 400 trees in Halabja, consisting mainly of the three types of trees named Robina, Narwand and Snawbar.

One tree filters 26 pound of carbon dioxide during a year. Implementing a ‘Planting Trees’ campaign to expand the green areas and to promote environmental awareness in the area is helping in increasing the green space in Bazyan and reminding the community about the risks and consequences caused by air pollution.
